Resilience Tools makes world-class leadership development available to all, irrespective of their role, level or sector

Motivated by the paralysing effect the London bombings had on the people involved, we began developing our work on resilience in the 1990s. At that time, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) declared that 40% of the 11,500 firms they regulated had no disaster recovery plans or back up systems in place.  Even for those who did, the investment was almost entirely in alternative infrastructure and IT.

A group of experienced leaders from diverse backgrounds, we set out to understand what it takes to lead during such serious incidents.  We explored the impact these tragedies have on the individuals affected, and the human responses that contribute to successful recovery.  By relating not just to disaster scenarios but also to the day-to-day challenges faced by leaders, the four Resilient Leaders Elements enable leaders to be more effective in any situation.

We knew we had something special as soon as we began using the Resilient Leaders Elements with leaders.  They resonate with people irrespective of the sector in which they work or their level of leadership experience. They have now been used to develop the resilience and leadership capability of thousands of people.

We believe:

  • Anyone can be a leader as long as they are confident in who they are and what they do

  • Effective leadership is about stepping up or back depending on the situation

  • Resilient Leadership leads to better decisions, better organisations, and better society


So we created Resilience Tools - founded upon our belief that great leadership development comes from:

  • Understanding your strengths so that you can call on them in times of difficulty

  • Focused work on your development areas

  • Regular completion of challenges over a period of time to build “muscle” to sustain growth and capability

Rachel McGill

Rachel has over 20 years of leadership development experience that began when she was commissioned into the army at 18 years old.


At 23 she became the youngest Captain in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. During her 8 years in the Army she worked with the UN in Angola and was part of the 3 woman team that broke the world record for the fastest circumnavigation of the globe in a car.

Director of two leading transformational leadership companies over 15 years (Sunray Seven Ltd and Resilience Tools Ltd) she specialises in the development of resilience in leaders and the tools they need to succeed.


Trained, experienced and qualified in MBTI/FIRO/CBT/Coaching.

Jeremy Mead

Jeremy is an experienced senior manager and ex-Vice President for Leadership Development for Unilever. 


In a career spanning over 30 years he is an acknowledged world-class coach - driven by a desire to bring high quality leadership development to as many people as possible.


Director of two established leadership development and coaching businesses (Norfolk Light Ltd and Resilience Tools Ltd), as well as a trustee/director of four organisations (including the Careers Research and Advisory Council - CRAC), he specialises in working with Leaders and their teams to improve performance through the use of transformational coaching methods and techniques.
